STEP INTO A WORLD OF WILDFLOWERS
This new work started taking shape earlier this year as the earth began waking up for Spring. I was really excited going into this season because it’s the first Spring I’ve felt super inspired by florals. After spending all winter sifting through library books for inspiration, it felt so refreshing to have flowers right in front of me.
Moments of softness combined with bolder, expressive marks became a common theme throughout this work. I’ve been trying to emulate an abstract version of how we experience nature, especially during a season when everything is coming alive. In nature, there are moments of softness and boldness side by side. The delicate overlap of flowers against wild grasses, the rich texture and color of the dirt, or a bold rock beside a soft flower.
I’ve become a little obsessed with capturing that contrast and feeling abstractly, and I’m really proud of how this new work came together.
